Sadiq Khan made a LORD by Keir Starmer alongside 15 new Labour peers days before PM resigns

SIR Sadiq Khan has been awarded a peerage by Sir Keir Starmer days before resigning as Prime Minister.
The London Mayor’s elevation to the House of Lords opens the door to him joining Andy Burnham’s Cabinet in the future.

Critics have called the ennoblement a “reward for failure” after Sir Sadiq’s controversial decade in City Hall.
He still has two years left in the role and has not ruled out standing for a fourth term in the 2028 elections.
It is understood Sir Sadiq does not want to become a minister while serving simultaneously as mayor.
A Government source said: “Sadiq has been a brilliant Mayor who has transformed London for the better, so this is thoroughly deserved.
“He has cut violent crime to record lows, cleaned up the capital’s air, delivered the Elizabeth Line, and got London building council homes again.”
But Susan Hall, who leads the London Tories, said: “The Mayor of London has enough responsibilities on his plate as it is, without adding the House of Lords to that list.
“He is doing a terrible job as our Mayor and I fear that giving him more jobs will just increase the list of things for him to fail at.”
Sir Sadiq is one of 26 new peers appointed today by Sir Keir, Tory leader Kemi Badenoch and Lib Dem leader Sir Ed Davey.
They will all formally be conferred their peerages by the King at a later date when the House is sitting.
The outgoing PM also nominated former union chief Christina McAnea and telly personality June Sarpong.
Ms Badenoch nominated Carphone Warehouse founder David Ross and former head of the army General Sir Patrick Sanders.
Nigel Farage continued to lament the system that deprives his party of any peers in the upper house.
The Reform leader said: “The House of Lords appointments are the uniparty writ large.
“Once again there is nothing for Reform and we get an even more unrepresentative upper house.”
Only the three parties with the most seats are able to nominate political peerages.
