Beloved Rocker Dies Suddenly in the Midst of Tour, Family 'Heartbroken'
John Lodge, bassist, co-lead singer, and songwriter of the Moody Blues, has died at the age of 82. His cause of death has not been made public.
"Our darling husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law and brother has been suddenly and unexpectedly taken from us," his family said in a statement on Oct. 10. "John peacefully slipped away surrounded by his loved-ones and the sounds of The Everly Brothers and Buddy Holly. We will forever miss his love, smile, kindness, and his absolute and never-ending support."
"As anyone who knew this massive hearted man knows, it was his enduring love of his wife, Kirsten, and his family, that was the most important thing to him, followed by his passion for music, and his faith," the statement continued. " We are heartbroken, but will walk forwards into peace surrounded by the love he had for each of us. As John would always say at the end of the show, thank you for keeping the faith."
Lodge was in the middle of a tour with several upcoming dates scheduled across the United States. About one week ago, his team shared that he was excited to play his very first solo show in Napa on Dec. 6.
"John's love of wine is well known… (in moderation of course!), so he's delighted to be bringing his 'Singer in a Rock and Roll Band' show to the Uptown Theatre Napa on Dec 6!" and Instagram post read. "This is John's first time performing his solo show in Napa, so why not come along and enjoy an evening packed full of Moody Blues hits and classic songs, all lovingly performed by John, his 10,000 Light Years band, and John's son-in-law, Jon Davison of YES! A show guaranteed to put a smile on your face and a song in your heart."
The comments section on that particular post has started to fill with condolences from fans around the globe.
Lodge is survived by his wife Kirsten, whom he married in 1968, and two children, Emily and Kristian, according to the Associated Press.
