Embattled rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine won't get back his luxury cars that the IRS seized.
The musician had a couple of his cars parked in his Lake Worth home in Florida, hauled off by the government agency earlier in the year. Those cars have now been sold at auction, raking in more than a quarter of a million dollars to clear his debts.
Tekashi was previously arrested earlier in the year for a domestic violence incident involving his girlfriend.
Tekashi 6ix9ine's Cars Auctioned For More Than $250,000
Months after the IRS seized a couple of luxury cars from Tekashi, they have now been auctioned off to cover the rapper's debts, per TMZ.
One of the seized cars was a 2019 Lamborghini Urus, which had 49,294 miles and came customized with a black leather interior and TV screens in the headrest. The vehicle was sold for $175,043 to an undisclosed bidder.
Another luxurious car confiscated was a 2017 Bentley Continental GT Speed, which sold for a lower price of $85,500 and had a lower mileage of slightly below 40,000 miles.
Both vehicles were customized with a distinctive rainbow paint splatter wrap, which seemed to have been applied by Tekashi himself when he first purchased them.
It remains unclear if the auction included other vehicles owned by the rapper. Additionally, the total proceeds of $260,543 from the car sale have yet to be confirmed as sufficient to cover the rapper's outstanding debt.
Tekashi 6ix9ine's Home Was Raided By The IRS Months Ago
In April, Tekashi's house in Lake Worth, Florida, was stormed by personnel from the IRS, per TMZ.
During the raid, the IRS agents also hauled off a number of items apart from the cars. However, there has been no confirmation on whether these items have been auctioned off.
At the time, officers from the Palm Beach Sheriff's joined their IRS agent in the operation, seemingly to ensure things did not escalate.
This precaution seemed unnecessary as the rapper was not at home. It is believed that Tekashi was in the Dominican Republic at the time, following his arrest on charges of domestic violence.
Following the raid, Tekashi's longtime lawyer, Lance Lazzaro, released a statement saying they "are assessing the situation and will issue a statement at the appropriate time."
Why The IRS Seized the Rapper's Properties?
While Tekashi himself has yet to address the issue, many have speculated that the vehicles and other properties seized were the result of the rapper defaulting on his tax debt.
It is unlikely that he made any moves to recover them when the seizure occurred, given that the cars were ultimately sold. Such a move would have required him to either pay off the amount he owed, enter into an installment agreement, or use any of the other possible means as dictated by the IRS.
According to the IRS regulation, they were required to have provided Tekashi "with the notice of sale and announce the pending sale to the public, usually through local newspapers or flyers posted in public places."
The rapper was also allowed to question the "minimum bid price" the agency set for the vehicles, although it is unclear whether he did this.
The Rapper Was Previously Arrested For Domestic Violence
The raid on the rapper's home came after his January arrest for assaulting his girlfriend, reggaeton artist Yailin la Más Viral, whose real name is Jeorjina Guillermo-Diaz. Yailín was also arrested for her role in the incident but was released after Tekashi posted her bail.
However, Tekashi was remanded in prison at the time until his hearing several days later, per the New York Post.
Ultimately, the "Fefe" crooner was ordered to pay a $510 deposit, complete a government-mandated counseling program, and regularly report to authorities every two months until the investigation into the matter is concluded.
Tekashi 6ix9ine Has Has Other Run-Ins With The Law
In the past, Tekashi has also had other run-ins with the law, one of which led to racketeering and other weapons and drug charges.
At the time, the prosecutors cut a deal with him, and he pleaded guilty to some of the charges and received a one-year prison sentence.
Due to the multiple legal issues and controversies, Tekashi's rap career has been severely marred and stunted.
