In a candid interview with Today, the great-great-grandmother opened up about her love of her job - which she enjoys so much, she refuses to call it work - while explaining that her dedication to her job is something that she inherited from her own mother.

Which matters more for a longer life?

'I can’t say I’m working when I enjoy what I’m doing, so I feel guilty if I say I’m working,' she said.

'It’s not for everybody, but it works well for me. My mother was the same way. In fact, she died here in the office, sitting here doing her work. She was past 80 and she died sitting at her desk. So I said if that’s God’s will for my life, so be it.'

She added that while she understands why people would want to retire at 60, she can't imagine being 'happy' while 'staying at home.'

Even at her age, Mariam still drives, buys groceries and cooks while living with her son.

And, she credits it to her daily habits, like the foods she eats.

She told Today: 'I try and eat right, sleep right and live right.'

In addition to her healthy diet, she remains active by heading to the pool with her family.

However, she understands the challenges that younger people are facing.

Her advice to younger generations would be to save money - adding that she doesn't even own a credit card because she doesn't want to be in debt.

She told the outlet: 'If I could get them to be thinking more about saving instead of spending with a credit card.

'I don’t like credit card debt… I don’t own a credit card.'

Mariam told the outlet that she was overwhelmed with joy and gratitude for all the love and happiness that she has experienced in her years.
