Record-breaking female powerlifter, 18, dies within 24 hours of developing severe infection, months after she was crowned Belgian champion

A female powerlifting champion from Belgium has died a less than a day after falling sick with a severe infection.
A friend to Laura Delava wrote on Instagram that the Belgian subjunior powerlifting champion from Huy in Liège had succumbed to a sudden illness on Monday 24 April.
It has been reported she died 'within 24 hours' of the onset of the illness.
The teenager started powerlifting last summer and went on to become national champion in her category with four national records only last September, aged 17.
A post on her Instagram profile read: 'I announce with a torn hear the death of our national ray of sunshine, Laura Delava. Relatives will recognise her good humour, her determination, her willpower and a sacred strong character.'
Records show the 18-year-old died in her hometown of Liège. Laura's family will have a private ceremony and tribute before the burial of her urn on Saturday 29 April.

According to the Instagram post, a doctor announced Laura's 'irreparable condition' at 1pm on Monday.
Friends left tributes underneath the post, sharing their fond memories with Laura.
Vincent Di Liberto, of local club Powerlifting Waterloo, wrote: 'I wish to express my sincere condolences and wishes of courage to all her close entourage, on behalf of me and the club.
'Laura will remain for us a remarkable and remarkable athlete, both for her potential and for her sympathy.'
Another account, who claimed to know Laura personally, wrote: 'I hope in your last moments you were surrounded well and reached the top maybe your loved ones left before you.
'Dying so young is unthinkable, that's where you see no one is safe. Rest in peace Laura.'
Michel Bertrand, president and coach of the Poids et Haltères club in the town of Seraing, told local press that 'nothing foreshadowed this tragedy'.
He said that Laura had set an example for young people: 'Powerlifting is a young discipline, but since Laura joined our club, we have welcomed many young powerlifters here, boys and girls.
'She generated a lot of enthusiasm, we are all in shock.'
He added: 'It will leave a great void in our sports community.'
