Florida man is accused of fatally shooting a man because he urinated on a building he owns.

Shortly after midnight on Feb. 13, prosecutors claimed Lloyd Preston Brewer III, 57, allegedly was drunk when he confronted 21-year-old Garrett Hughes, 21, outside Conch Town Liquor and Lounge, a bar housed in the Searstown shopping center in Key West.

According to Monroe County State Attorney Dennis Ward, surveillance video allegedly shows the suspect exit his vehicle and approach the shirtless Hughes, who was unarmed and also appeared intoxicated.

Hughes “is kind of stumbling around and (Brewer) pulls up his shirt, pulls out a gun and pumps a shot into his stomach,” Ward told the court at a Feb. 14 hearing, WPLG reported.

Ward said the suspect then may have fired an additional shot before phoning 911. The prosecutor noted “the video doesn’t support” Brewer’s claim to the dispatcher that the shooting was the result of self-defense.

Brewer was ordered to be held without bond on second-degree murder and weapons charges.

The victim’s father, John Hughes, said he and family are “heartbroken” over the slaying.

“Garrett had a smile that could light up a room and was a friend to everyone,” he said about his son. “He was passionate and loyal when it came to his family and friends, and was so proud of his island home. He will be greatly missed.”
