Married At First Sight's Hayley Vernon has complained about Australians using the word 'candy' - an American term for lollies.

The porn star, 32, went on a rant on Instagram on Tuesday afternoon after hearing several people refer to 'Halloween candy' while trick-or-treating.

'What the f**k are you all calling lollies and bars of chocolate "candy"?' she wrote.

'I'm dying at the sheep complex on most people copying and paraphrasing American terms,' she added.

Hayley noted that no ordinary Australian uses 'candy' in general conversation.

The Truth Behind Impossible Foods

Plant-based foods are on the rise, and more people are open to substituting vegetarian products without going 100% vegetarian. This would mean that it’s the perfect time for Impossible Foods to enter the market. The founder, Dr. Patrick Brown, has been experimenting with this idea since 2011. Since then, there have been a few different versions of their burgers, but given that they went international in 2018 and more and more fast-food chains are adding plant-based burgers to their menu. But what’s the real story behind these delicious meat-free burgers?

Who Made it Happen

A chef or a revolutionary foodie didn’t found impossible Foods; it was founded by a biochemist named Patrick Brown. He was working at Stanford University before he decided to start his company, and according to Nature, he didn’t recruit chefs or foodies, either. He assembled a team of scientists of all sorts, who took a different approach to build the perfect veggie burger: They were engineering their burgers starting from the molecular level.

The Molecule that Makes all the Difference

Founder Patrick Brown says that they spent around six years studying meat on a molecular level to find out how it “works,” and how it all comes together to create something humans have been craving since we discovered hunting and fire. They found that there’s one single molecule that’s responsible for making meat taste so gosh darn good, and it’s called heme. Heme is a protein in hemoglobin, which is the stuff that carries oxygen through your bloodstream. It also helps turn calories into energy, which means there’s a lot of it in animal tissues. When those tissues are turned into food, it’s heme that gives meat that distinctive flavor, you can only describe as “meaty.” Heme is present in plants, too, and there are all different kinds. They tested different types of plant-based heme until they found one that was very similar to animal-based heme, and settled on a protein extracted from the roots of legumes. Then, it was just finding a way to extract heme from plants, put it into their veggie burger, and presto! A meaty-tasting veggie burger!

The science behind the burger

Basically, soy roots contain a version of heme that has a similar molecular structure to the heme that’s in animal tissue. Soy doesn’t have nearly as much of it, though, so the scientific geniuses at Impossible Foods found a way to take the genetic codes from soy-based heme and insert it into a variety of yeast. They then feed the yeast to get it to multiply, and voila: heme on a grand scale, without the environmental impacts of raising fields and fields of either soy or cows. That’s only half the story, though. To get the rest of the puzzle pieces, they cooked real beef and exposed it to something called a gas chromatography-mass spectrometry system. That isolated every molecule and compound present that created the smells of that cooking beef and gave them the structure of the burger they needed to put the heme into to make sure the Impossible Burger also had that “meaty” aroma.

The Truth Behind Whole Foods

Whole Foods is the divisive upscale market with a commitment to natural and organic foods and products — their trademarked slogan is “America’s Healthiest Grocery Store.” Even the biggest Whole Foods fans have to admit that their prices are a bit ridiculous. The chain has since come a long way after opening its first small store in Austin, Texas, in 1980, and now it has grown to almost 500 locations. Whole Foods has made plenty of headlines over the last four decades, from scandals to products that have caused a social media uproar. What truth is lurking under all that quinoa and organic produce?

When you see evidence like this receipt, it’s hard to say that Whole Foods shouldn’t be named the Whole Paycheck — $24 for 12 ounces of almond butter does seem a bit extreme. But does the store deserve its unflattering moniker? In 2016, Wedbush Securities compared Whole Foods to stores like Safeway, Kroger, and Wegmans, and found them to be about 15 percent more expensive than “conventional supermarkets.” When compared to “specialty grocers,” like Sprouts and Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods was found to be about 19 percent more expensive. However, the biggest hits to shoppers came in the meat and produced departments, where prices were 40 and 22 percent more. But what about all those significant price cuts Amazon made after the acquisition? Although some items saw cuts by as much as 43 percent, Reuters reported that an analysis showed just a 1.2 percent overall decrease in prices. In other words, unless you know exactly which products to buy, Whole Foods is still pretty expensive, and won’t be shedding that nickname anytime soon.

Compared to Trader Joe’s?

Trader Joe’s is known for its cheap groceries, and most die-hard fans would rather drive 20 miles out of their way than go to Whole Foods, but how do the two stores compare after the Amazon-driven price cuts? CNBC went on a reconnaissance mission in Manhattan to find out, and the results might make you rethink your anti-Whole Foods stance. Ten comparable items were purchased at each store: bananas, organic baby kale, avocados, almond butter, sliced turkey breast, cage-free eggs, butter, ice cream, whole almonds, and milk. At Whole Foods, the total tab came to $41.45, while Trader Joe’s rang up at $37.15 — a difference of only $4.30. Yes, most items at Whole Foods were marginally more expensive than Trader Joe’s, but surprisingly, none of the products were more than $1 higher, and the milk, eggs, and avocados cost the same at both stores. Bottom line? Depending on what you’re shopping for, maybe that 20-mile drive isn’t worth it after all.

The overcharging scandal

One thing Whole Foods doesn’t need to do is give haters more ammunition when it comes to the store’s high prices, but an overcharging scandal in 2015 gave them just that. An investigation of New York City’s Whole Foods stores, led by the Department of Consumer Affairs, revealed a “systematic overcharging for pre-packaged foods.” The DCA found that of 80 foods priced by the pound, none were labeled with the correct weight, and of those, 89 percent “violated federal rules for how much a package can deviate from the actual weight.” Everything from coconut shrimp to berries to chicken tenders was affected, with the amount of overage ranging from an easy-to-miss 80 cents up to a jaw-dropping $14.84. If you were lucky, you might happen to purchase one of the very few underweight packages. Whole Foods denied the allegations but ultimately agreed to pay a $500,000 settlement and implement new policies and conduct quarterly audits of the weights of their pre-packaged foods.

Banksy, the elusive British artist who rose to prominence by vandalizing public property, made his mark with clever innovations that set him apart. His graffiti was deemed art while other similar creations are scrubbed clean. City maintenance not only allows Banksy graffiti on walls, but crews actually retouch any defacement or deterioration. Now that people will throw down millions of dollars to acquire an original Banksy, the city is keen on preserving his work. In a way, there is humor to that preservation. The subculture artist who does not make personal appearances and communicates by email or social media has said, “I love the way capitalism finds a place—even for its enemies.”

Do You Have a Problem With That?

Banksy is an exception to the supposed vandalism that is graffiti art. Rival graffiti artists are not cool with his work getting special treatment. They respond boldly with complaints visible to the world.

That’s what happened here. A rival street artist defaced Banksy’s 2020 Valentine’s Day installation. It pictures a girl launching a bouquet of red flowers with a slingshot. It was defiled within days by a tagger who scrawled “BCC Wankers,” in pink, a reference that targets Bristol’s city council. Banksy responded on Instagram and wrote, “I’m kind of glad it happened” next to a post of the original stenciled images.

Street Artist Rivalries

When Banksy grabbed a spray paint can for the very first time, he was engaging in a distinctive art form that had been around for over a decade. This was the Bristol graffiti art scene, home to a unique British subculture. Graffiti art moved from America to the UK, just like rap, and had a profound influence on the small city of Bristol. Bristol, which is about an hour and a half train ride from London, was home to a vibrant bohemian music and art scene. Styles were fed by the dynamic diversity of the multi-cultural port city, primarily by folks of Caribbean descent. Local artists developed their talent around rap and punk and other ‘80s influences.

Banksy Makes His Mark

It was out of a rivalry between graffiti artists that raised Banksy to prominence. He went after King Robbo, Bristol’s most renowned tagger. It got him noticed. Robbo was the original ruler of street art from the early ‘80s. Pictured here is one of his most respected works.

Robbo dominated the walls of the city and decorated the most trains. His style reflected more standard graffiti. In the early ‘90s, Banksy hit the scene. His trademark stencil art went after Robbo’s most revered graffiti painting.

The searing satirical message brought Robbo, who had quit street art for years, out of retirement. It was war. The walls of Bristol charted their battles. The street art rivalry would make both artists famous and the street colorful.

A woman is facing charges after golfing into the Grand Canyon, the park said in a Facebook post.
It comes after a video showing the incident circulated online.
Park officials said social-media users helped identify the individual, who is due to appear in court.

A woman is facing charges for hitting a golf ball and a golf club into the Grand Canyon, according to a statement from the park.

On October 27, the Grand Canyon National Park's Facebook page posted a screenshot showing a woman at the edge of the canyon's South Rim, near Mather Point, with the golf club in the air.

"Do we really need to say, 'don't hit golf balls into the Grand Canyon?'" the caption read, adding that "throwing objects over the rim of the canyon is not only illegal but can also endanger hikers and wildlife who may be below."

The statement said that with the help of members of the public, Grand Canyon Law Enforcement had "identified, located, and contacted the individual responsible for the incident. Charges and a court appearance for the individual are pending."

The Facebook post did not identify the individual, but social media users commented underneath the post to say that the person in the photo was Katie Sigmond, who has over 7 million followers on TikTok. Sigmond did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.

The GCLE post was shared 116 times and received 183 comments, the majority of which condemned the woman's actions and argued that she should face severe consequences for her actions. Some suggested she should be forced to find the golf ball and club herself.

Others shared their experiences of hiking in the Grand Canyon and seeing objects flying near them that were thrown by people on higher ground. One person called it the "scariest Canyon experience."

A screen recording of a video showing a woman hitting a golf ball against the rim of the canyon was posted to Reddit on October 26. In the video, the person's golf club snaps in two and flies out over the edge, with the person laughing and appearing shocked by what happened.
