Police officers smashed the window of a car parked in a Livingston car park in a bid to to rescue a young, distressed dog from a boiling vehicle. Cops were called to Centre Livingston after concerned shoppers attempted to rescue a dog, who was trapped in a hot car without air or water.

A parking ticket placed on the car window, made passers-by believe the dog had been in the hot vehicle for 90 minutes before anyone noticed.

Speaking to Edinburgh Live, a woman said: “I’m staggered to believe anyone could be so irresponsible as to leave a dog in a car on a sunny day, windows closed, no water. Being a dog owner myself, I was very worried about the dog, and it was obviously hot and distressed.”
