Machine Gun Kelly's skin turns yellow after injecting black tattoo ink into lymph nodes
Machine Gun Kelly's tattoo journey didn't just take a significant hit on his finances — it also came at a serious physical cost.
The decision to complete his massive blackout, or "dark mode" tattoo, covering most of his upper body, in two months rather than two years triggered an alarming health scare. The punishing physical transformation left the rapper, 36, so unwell that his skin turned "yellow." MGK was also unable to sleep or move certain parts of his upper body. The Emo Girl singer admitted he disregarded his tattoo artist's advice about dramatically condensing the timeline.
Defying professional guidance and pushing through the "near impossible" process is what ultimately made him sick. MGK, whose real name is Colson Baker, explained, "After the first week, we hit my lymph nodes around my armpits and shoulders, and I got really sick. My skin was turning yellow. I wasn't able to sleep. I stopped being able to move certain parts of my upper body." It comes as shocking photos revealed Lara Trump's face before plastic surgery.

Despite the enormous physical toll, the tattooing experience left MGK feeling "extremely inspired." He told Billboard Canada, "Not just because of what I had done, but because of what I had to overcome."
MGK decided he wanted the body art - which was done by artist ROXX and unveiled in 2024 - while working on his recent project, a collaboration with Wiz Khalifa, a mixtape called Blog Era Boyz, reports the Mirror US.
"I was looking for a change that wasn't just a sound wave," he revealed, "It had to be something physical." The publication reported MGK couldn't "recognize himself" with his numerous, often conflicting, tattoos. He would examine his reflection, wondering, "Who the f--- am I?"
He explained, "I saw death and drugs in all these patterns that I was literally writing on my body." The musician added, "There were happy tattoos, sad tattoos, holy tattoos, hellish tattoos. It was like my bipolarity was screaming off my skin."
MGK offered a peek into the arduous process of having his tattoos blacked out on Instagram. His footage showed dripping blood and the performer wearing an oxygen mask while seated in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber. At the time, he described the experience as "the most painful s--- I've ever experienced in my life."
During a visit to The Jennifer Hudson Show in September 2025, he explained the tattoo was intended to "redesign what the human skin could look like." Because the procedure didn't involve anesthesia or numbing, he stated, "I had to focus out, big mistake, but my morals stand."
Following his transformation, MGK and his ex-partner, Megan Fox, have welcomed a child. The former couple introduced their daughter, Saga Blade, in a March 27, 2025, post featuring a black-and-white clip of the rapper holding the infant's hand.
"She's finally here!! our little celestial seed," he posted at the time. "3/27/25." A source told PEOPLE at the time that the arrival of their now-one-year-old strengthened their bond.
"Megan's very happy with how he's stepped up for both her and the baby," the source said, "While they still have separate homes, they spend a lot of time together as a family. They're putting the baby first, and it's brought them closer in many ways. Things are great now. He's amazing with the baby and she very much enjoys spending time with him."
