Donald Trump has deleted an AI-generated image he posted to Truth Social which depicted him as a Jesus Christ-like figure.
In the post, the US president was shown standing with a glowing, divine light from his hands while healing a man in a hospital bed as a demon floats in the background.
The image, which came as Trump launched a shocking attack against Pope Leo, sparked outrage among some of his most high-profile Christian supporters. He then made a baffling excuse for the move, telling reporters the photo was "to do with the Red Cross which we support."
Megan Basham, a reporter at the conservative Daily Wire, slammed the president for his "OUTRAGEOUS blasphemy," while Isabel Brown, a host on the same outlet, called the image "disgusting and unacceptable".
"Nothing matters more than Jesus," she added. "This post is, frankly, disgusting and unacceptable, but also a profound misreading of the American people experiencing a true and beautiful revival of faith in Christ."
Basham demanded Trump to take the photo down immediately. "I don't know if the President thought he was being funny or if he is under the influence of some substance or what possible explanation he could have for this," she said.
"Take this down immediately and ask for forgiveness from the American people and then from God".
Trump later told reporters at the White House the image was depicting himself as a "doctor," adding: "It has to do with the Red Cr
