Legendary singer accused of sexual assault by former staff members
Renowned Spanish singer Julio Iglesias is under investigation after two of his former employees came forward to say he sexually abused them.
The two female employees filed a complaint with a Spanish court on Jan. 5, according to the New York Times.
The women, who are unnamed, worked at his properties in the Dominican Republic, and the Bahamas and said the assaults took place in 2021.
In a report from the Spanish newspaper elDiario.es and Univision television, one of the women, a domestic worker, said she was coerced into having sex with Igesias and suffered verbal and physical abuse from him.
“He used me almost every night. I felt like an object, like a slave,” she said, adding that he forced her to take part in threesomes with another female staff member.
The other, a physiotherapist, said that Iglesias had touched her inappropriately and kissed her against her will. She said he also regularly threatened to fire her, asked when her period was due and would criticize her weight.
“He always said I was fat and had to lose weight,” she told the Spanish news outlets, per the BBC.
She said that while she refused his advances, “there were girls who couldn’t say no. And he did what he wanted with them.”
Iglesias, 82, is one of the most successful singers worldwide, as he has sold over 300 million records in 14 languages. He is possibly best known in the U.S. for the hit song “To All the Girls I’ve Loved Before” which he performed with Willie Nelson. He is also the father of the singer Enrique Iglesias.
