Gene Simmons derails cringe interview as he tries to hit on TV news anchor

Kiss rocker Gene Simmons left his fans wincing this week after he derailed a TV news interview in its final minutes.
The 76-year-old singer and bassist was wrapping up an interview with the Scripps News anchor Maritsa Georgiou on Monday when he suddenly appeared to hit on her.
The rocker — who has been married since 2011 — held up Georgiou's send-off as he interrupted to ask her if she was 'modeling,' which left the anchor speechless.
The Daily Mail has reached out to Simmons' representative for comment but hasn't yet received a response.
The Kiss frontman was stopping by the news program to speak about his advocacy for the American Music Fairness Act, which would require radio corporations to pay royalties to musicians after playing their music.
Simmons — who reunited with his Kiss bandmates earlier this month at the Kennedy Center Honors — had just received congratulations on the honor from Georgiou when he suddenly uttered a seeming non sequitur about Georgiou.

As Georgiou tried to end the segment on Simmons support for the American Music Fairness Act, he interrupted to ask, 'By the way, are you still modeling?'; pictured with Kiss in December 2023 in NYC
'By the way, are you still modeling?' Simmons asked after the anchor had tried to end the interview.
'What?' Georgiou replied, seemingly confused by still smiling.
'Are you still modeling?' Simmons repeated.
'Modeling? I — I don't model, sir,' the anchor replied politely.
Simmons gave the game away when he responded in mock surprise: 'Oh, I assumed....'
Georgiou was a good sport and said that she 'appreciate[d]' his time before ending the interview for good.
Simmons made the apparently flirtatious display despite being married since 2011 to Shannon Tweed, an actress and former Playboy Playmate.
Simmons, who claimed in 2010 to have slept with nearly 5,000 women during his decades touring with Kiss, has been in a relationship with Tweed going back to 1983, but it took nearly 30 years for the longtime couple to decide to tie the knot.

Simmons was optimistic on Tuesday in front of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Intellectual Property that the bill could pass out of committee with support from both Democratic and Republican Senators

In a humorous exchange, California Senator Alex Padilla asked Simmons for advice for his guitar-obsessed son. 'Have a fallback position,' Simmons said in perfect deadpan; pictured Tuesday in Washington, DC
They share two adult children: 36-year-old Nick Simmons and 33-year-old Sophie Simmons.
Earlier in his interview with Georgiou, Simmons said it was an 'injustice' that, for decades, musical artists had not been receiving royalties for their performances when their songs were played on AM and FM radio.
He said that the radio industry had made nearly $14 billion in the past year by playing the music of listeners' favorite artists, though those musicians earned nothing from their music being played.
Simmons was optimistic on Tuesday in front of the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Intellectual Property that the bill could pass out of committee with support from both Democratic and Republican Senators.
'We are going to pass this bill. It is bipartisan,' Simmons predicted. 'You will do the will of the people because 70% of the United States of America in a recent poll said, "We want this injustice cured."'
During the hearing, which also featured testimony from radio executives, Simmons had a humorous interaction when California Senator Alex Padilla noted that his son had fallen in love with the guitar.
The Senator asked the legendary bassist if he had any advice for a young aspiring musician.
'Have a fallback position,' Simmons said in perfect deadpan, before explaining how much more difficult it had become for musicians to make a living today compared to when he and Kiss were on the rise.
