The rock world is mourning the loss of another talented musician as Gary “Mani” Mounfield has died.

He was 63.

Mounfield’s brother, Greg, announced his death on Facebook.

“It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to announce the sad passing of my brother,” he wrote.

He added that his brother is now reunited with his wife, Imelda. According to Rolling Stone, she died of cancer in 2023. His cause of death has not been shared.

Mani Mounfield was best known for his time as the bassist for Stone Roses and Primal Scream.

“Rest in Peace Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield,” All On The Board posted on X. “Thank you for being one of the best to ever pick up a bass guitar and a human the world will forever miss. Sending love to your family & friends. You will be forever loved and never forgotten.”

“The perfect example of how a bassist can be the beating heart of a band,” Rough Trade posted on X. “A legendary player with primal scream, the backbone of The Stones Roses’ groove. RIP Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield.”

Mounfield was a native of Manchester, England. He began his career in 1987 with the Stone Roses, and when that band disbanded in 1996 he joined Primal Scream. But when the Stone Roses reunited in 211, Mounfield returned to the group until it broke up again in 2017.

Rolling Stone reported that he was slated to embark on a speaking tour of the United Kingdom in 2026.
