Wealthy San Francisco residents driven to despair by driverless cars making SCREAMING sounds on their block all night
A wealthy California neighborhood has taken a stand against driverless cars.
Residents of San Francisco's Inner Richmond area have placed an orange construction cone at the entrance of their dead-end street, topped with a laminated sign carrying a scathing message aimed at Waymo, the Google-linked firm that operates driverless cars in the city.
The homemade sign, which has racked up 1,400 upvotes on Reddit, reads: 'Waymo comes at all hours of the night and up to 7 times per hour with flashing lights and screaming reverse sounds, waking people up and destroying the quality of life.
'We have submitted multiple requests to Waymo, talked to engineers and opened tickets with 311 trying to get them to stop.
'This is an attempt to stop Waymo cars from driving into the dead end where they are forced to reverse and adversely affect the lives of the residents.
'If the cones are in your way please move them back after you have entered so we can continue to try to block the Waymo cars from entering and disrupting the lives of residents.'
The community-driven form of protest has been in place since at least October 5, according to SF Gate.
The comment section on Reddit was torn, with some calling this uprising against a driverless car a 'first world problem' and poking fun at the situation.

By October 16, the sign was still standing at Lake Street and Second Avenue - and it might have worked as Waymo vehicles were no longer making drop-offs or pickups on the block
Other users, who were pro Waymo, said that putting cones in front of the cars will just cause 'traffic and confusion.'
'What happens if you put the cone there after a Waymo arrives, trapping it,' said one user.
Another user offered another solution, rather than implementing the construction cone.
'They should really be encouraging their neighbors to simply select a different drop-off or pickup point around the corner. You can select alternate pickup/drop-off spots easily when booking a ride,' they said.

Whether or not this was as a result of the construction cone and sign has not been confirmed.
Daily Mail has reached out to Waymo for comment.
This isn't the first time Waymo's autonomous vehicles have disrupted San Francisco residents' way of living.
Last August, San Franciscans reported losing sleep over a parking lot full of driverless cars that continually honk at each other.
California residents near 2nd Street and Harrison Street in the South of Market neighborhood have recorded Waymo vehicles honking in a nearby parking lot throughout all hours of the day.
The dystopian video shows the cars driving in circles around the lot with their lights on in the middle of the night as they randomly start beeping at each other.
Initially neighbors were excited to welcome the robotaxis to the area a few weeks ago - then the sounds started disrupting their sleep.
