British man brushes off being bitten by fly - then dies weeks later
Andrew Kane, 31, was bitten on the elbow while working on a farm with his sister - he later collapsed on a night out with his pals and the healthy father-of-one died just weeks later
A young farm worker died just weeks after he was bitten by a fly.
Andrew Kane, 31, had been working on a farm with his sister when he noticed a red mark on his elbow after the "big, strong lad" was nipped by the fly. The 31-year-old went to the hospital after his mum urged him to go - and was given antibiotics. The healthy man did not suffer from an adverse reaction but he collapsed on a night out, just two weeks later. Andrew was rushed to Northumbria Emergency Care Hospital where doctors discovered he had developed a deadly condition.

The 31-year-old, who has a seven-year-old daughter, had developed sepsis following the horsefly injury on his elbow.
Andrew spent weeks in a coma before slipping away with his devoted mum Rachel by his side, on September 18, according to ChronicleLive. The 31-year-old, from Northumberland, grew up in a farming family and followed in his family's footsteps after school to work as a contract farmer.
Rachel said: "He did lambing with his dad in lambing season but he was mainly on the dairy farms. He did break off from it, he trained to be a painter and decorator."
Andrew was living with Rachel at her home in Morpeth before he died and the mum-of-three revealed what made her convince her son to go to the doctors, after his day on the farm in Shrewsbury.
She said: "He wasn't concerned. You think it's gone red and it's itchy and you think it's getting better. But the hole in his arm never seemed to heal."
After Andrew collapsed on a night out, he spent the next five weeks in hospital battling the infection. He was transferred to Newcastle's Freeman hospital and was initially put in an induced coma, before showing some signs that he might recover.
Rachel said: "They had him sedated then he came round from that, then there was hope that he was getting better. They had all sorts of hope for him. But it came back with a vengeance and started spreading really quickly and his organs started shutting down."
She believes her son knew he was going to die. But even while he was gravely ill, caring Andrew was asking his mum to buy presents for the nurses taking care of him.
Rachel has since shared an emotional tribute to her boy and said they were best friends, as well as mother and son. The heartbroken mum said: "He was a big strong lad. I could never have imagined that a fly bite could come to this. It's been horrendou
