Democrat lawmaker caught fiddling finances said she shouldn't be fined too hard because she has a sick grandfather
A Democratic lawmaker currently under investigation for forgery and embezzlement previously pleaded with investigators to let her off easy due to her sick grandfather over misused campaign funds.
Oklahoma State Representative Ajay Pittman, 32, is under investigation by the state Attorney General's Office after allegedly using campaign money to fund personal purchases including TVs, clothing and restaurant dining.
Agents reviewing her bank records said they found 'suspicious' expenses for her campaign, including two TV's, a laptop, and dining and clothing expenses.
That disclosure came in a search warrant affidavit filed earlier this week in connection with raids on her home and office in relation to their investigation.
Investigators started probing Pittman in June after a Oklahoma Ethics Commission (OEC) highlighted the alleged wrongdoing, according to the search warrant.
Counsel for the commission pointed to the spending as being consistent with unauthorized spending from her previous campaigns in 2020 and 2022.
The OEC accused her of misspending funds across those campaigns, she reached a settlement of $35,000 with them last year after admitting to the misspending.
In an email seen by the Daily Mail, she pleaded for a lenient settlement while citing the alleged ailing health of her grandfather from prostate cancer.

'Please take into strong consideration that I am also one of the primary caretakers for my grandfather', Pittman said to the commission last May.
She agreed to reimburse her campaign accounts $17,858.22 last year with funds from her personal accounts and a civil penalty of $17,141.
As well as the probe by the state Attorney General's office , the OEC are suing her for fraud and breach over contract over the latest allegations.
The raids by agents acting on behalf of the Attorney General uncovered cell phones, iPads, flash drives and documents from various banks.
It is alleged she falsely represented that a $2,500 deposit into her campaign's bank account earlier this year was a reimbursement payment from her.
The OEC suit claims that the deposit was actually a campaign contribution made on behalf of the Osage Nation.
She is also accused of forging a cashier's check, and having lied on a campaign report as part of the alleged deception.
The criminal investigation is focusing on the cashier's check, according to the affidavit filed in court.

As part of the investigation, Pittman's home, seen here, was raided by agents who recovered a number of electronic devices
Investigators say she altered the check and emailed it to the OEC in an attempt to deceive them.
The affidavit says her address in Oklahoma City was placed under surveillance but it was discovered she actually lived with her mother.
Her mother is former state Senator Anastasia Pittman who had previously ran as the Democratic nominee for Lt. Governor in 2018.
Pittman has not been charged with any crimes but was temporarily suspended from duties pending the outcome of the ethics investigation.
The Daily Mail has contacted her office for comment.
