Nicole Kidman has separated from Keith Urban after 19 years of marriage.
Kidman, 58, and Urban, 57, the country singer, began living separately in early summer, with the latter moving out of their home in Nashville, Tennessee, and finding his own residence in the city.
Kidman was opposed to splitting up and had been battling to keep the marriage intact, according to TMZ, the celebrity news website.
The pair met in January 2005 at an event in their home country of Australia. They started dating in the summer of that year, before getting married in June 2006 in Sydney.
At the time Kidman was at the peak of her success, having won the Best Actress Oscar in 2003 for her role in the psychological drama The Hours.
Four months into their marriage, the actress helped her husband check into a rehabilitation facility. He later told Rolling Stone magazine he was “very, very blessed” that his wife staged an intervention.
Urban has previously spoken about his troubles with addiction to alcohol and cocaine, and wrote the song Thank You to express his gratitude to his wife.
The lyrics to the song include: “And I don’t know how you found me. All I know is I owe everything to you, yes, I do.
“And I thank you for my heart, I thank you for my life. I thank God for grace and mercy and that you became my wife.”
Urban has won four Grammys and all seven of the albums he has released since his marriage to Kidman have been inside the top 10 in the US charts.
The pair have two daughters together, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret, born in 2008 and 2010, the second child via a surrogate mother. Kidman also has two adopted children from her previous marriage to Tom Cruise.
In September 2014, Kidman’s father, Anthony, died after suffering a fall and her husband sang Amazing Grace at the funeral.
Urban told CBS News in 2016: “Meeting her and getting married wasn’t life-changing, it was life-beginning. It was literally, like, ‘OK, life starts’.”
In June 2024, the pair celebrated their 18th wedding anniversary, marking the occasion with a post on Instagram in which Kidman is lounging on a wall overlooking the sea and Urban is playing the guitar. The caption read simply: “Forever #happyanniversary.”
During an interview with People Magazine in May this year, Kidman shut down the idea of collaborating with her husband on screen, adding: “We’re together in life, so we don’t need to do our show together. Our life is a show.”
