An entire house has fallen down a cliff on a residential street as a result of a landslide that rocked the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria.
Police and fire crews rushed to the scene on Penny Lane in McCrae after an emergency alert was issued at 8.49am on Tuesday.
Only one person with a minor injury was hurt in the dramatic incident with debris including a surfboard and a bed seen in the wreckage.
VICSES Sorrento Unit Controller Mark Daw said about 12 homes had been evacuated.
'There's a significant amount of crew on the ground at the moment, which will eventually scale back once we are happy with the situation. At the moment it's still really raw. We're just trying to get our heads around everything,' he said.
Mr Daw said it was unclear if other homes were at risk on the coastal hill.
'At the moment we're just not sure. That's why we've got exclusion zones from here all the back and all the way in front of the foreshore too, just to make sure that no one is in harms way,' he said.
Local resident Tanina Osborne and her husband had just finished their morning beach swim when they heard a 'horrible sound'.

An entire house has fallen down a cliff (pictured) on a residential street after a deafening landslide rocked Melbourne's Mornington Peninsula on Tuesday

One person has been taken to hospital in a stable condition following the landslide as crews from the SES work to clear the area (the damaged home is pictured)

Residents described the sound of the home tumbling down the hill as 'horrendous' (pictured)
'I heard this really, really loud rumbling, and like a crash,' Ms Osborne told AAP.
'So my husband and I ran across the road and I saw that this house had tumbled down the hill - I've just never seen anything like it.'
Ms Osborne said a water outlet near their daily swimming spot had been gushing into the bay three weeks earlier due to a water main issue on a road above where the landside occurred.
'That could have contributed as well, I don't know. I'm not an expert, but you know that whole hill just has a lot going on,' she said.
Nearby resident Karen O'Halloran described the sound of the house sliding down the hill as 'horrendous'.
'I just witnessed the whole thing and I'm still in shock. Our emergency services are amazing,' she wrote on social media.
'Not surprising with all the rain. Shocking for everyone. Hope everyone is safe,' another said.
Multiple nearby homes remain a concern and were being monitored by authorities, State Emergency Service operations manager Chris Gregory said.

The slope may continue to move for hours or days afterwards the initial landslide (pictured)
'A couple of them were vacant holiday homes and others had residents who were working with councils and other agencies to make sure they have a safe place to go,' Mr Gregory told ABC Radio Melbourne.
An advice alert for the incident warns the landslide could continue to move for days.
Point Nepean Road was closed near McCreae in both directions near Penny Lane and police have urged motorists to avoid the area.
Authorities have disconnected utility services in nearby properties as they assess the area for potential danger and the Nepean Highway has been closed between McCrae and Dromana.
