Liam and Noel Gallagher secretly booked three dates at Wembley for an Oasis reunion this year, we can reveal.

Liam, 51, claimed in February that an offer had been made for the pair to tour, but older brother Noel turned it down.

But sources said tonight how talks between the warring duo had got as far as setting actual dates – and they had even booked to finally take the stage together at the London stadium on July 8, 9 and 10.

But the plan, which would have sparked a frenzy among millions of fans, collapsed.

One source said: “An Oasis reunion has been hoped for for years. This year would have been the big moment, 30 years on from their debut album Definitely Maybe.

“But until now, no one has known how close Liam and Noel came to making it a reality. It doesn’t get much closer than booking Wembley, and their teams were devastated when it all collapsed yet again.

“But the fact they made it to that point shows there’s a will on both sides. The hope is it will be a case of not if, but when.”

The war between the brothers – one of the most notorious in music history – began with the band’s split in 2009.

Liam told February’s issue of MOJO magazine: “Noel? He ain’t f***ing doing it.

“We put an offer on the table for an Oasis thing, because we got offered it – he said no. It was a big tour, a lot of money.”

In a previous interview, Liam explained that he and his brother Noel's feud started backstage at an Oasis gig in Paris back in 2009. The younger sibling admitted he swung one of Noel's guitars "like an axe" behind the scenes at the gig. Liam told The Sunday Times that he "loves" Noel but there was "no need" for the band to split

This month Liam went on the road with his own Definitely Maybe Tour, playing the album in full – and insiders say he reserves a seat at every gig for Noel, 57.

During a recent performance on his completely sold-out Definitely Maybe tour, Liam admitted his older brother was "playing hard to get". However, he dropped a hint that Noel may be one step closer to picking up the phone.
