Dark Facts Most Fans Don't Know About Deadliest Catch
There are reality TV shows that see people fall head over heels in love, and then there are the ones that show us the unseen parts of the world. ‘Deadliest Catch’ most certainly falls into the latter category. After all, it’s not every day we get to learn about the extreme fishing industry.
The series has been on the Discovery Channel since 2005, but that doesn’t mean everyone knows the truth about the show and its stars. In fact, the tragedies that have struck the ‘Deadliest Catch’ team prove a lot goes on behind the scenes.
Jerod Sechrist had some run-ins with the law
One of the more memorable short-term cast members of ‘Deadliest Catch’ was Jerod Sechrist, who instantly caused a stir. The reality series follows crews as they search for crabs in dangerous waters, but not just anybody can catch crab. Fishermen need to know the difference between male and female crabs to preserve the females and prevent overfishing.
However, Sechrist couldn’t tell the difference, even though he claimed he was an experienced angler. That was just the beginning. In life, the law would catch up to him. The former ‘Deadliest Catch’ cast member was reportedly pulled over by police for reckless driving when they discovered illegal narcotics on his person, resulting in 43 days behind bars.
Sig Hansen faced serious allegations from his daughter
Fisherman Sig Hansen has been a show favorite ever since he made his debut. Still, there were some serious allegations thrown at him from his daughter during his divorce and custody case. Hansen’s daughter alleged that he had abused her when she was just an infant, although the accusations were thrown out by a judge.
The fisherman continues to explain the allegations are false and puts them down to a tainted relationship due to his ex-wife’s interference. Hansen has also claimed his former partner has tried to extort him for money several times, with another alleged attempt coming in 2016. Of that lawsuit, Hansen claimed it was “nothing more than an old-fashioned shakedown” and “blackmail.”
