Last year, Mady Dewey participated in the brand’s Swim Search open casting call. She headed to the Dominican Republic with photographer Yu Tsai for the feature, where she posed in a series of photos that resulted in her being named the winner of that year’s competition. The honor earned her a rookie spot in the 2023 SI Swimsuit Issue.
It was at Miami Swim Week in July that Dewey had the opportunity to reflect on what it meant to win the 2022 Swim Search and how things had changed for her in the time since. She admitted that the whole experience had changed her life “in so many ways,” from personal to professional shifts. Perhaps most importantly, her mindset and self-perception received a boost from the experience. “A lot of it is internal,” she said. “It has changed the way that I view myself and my confidence.”
But, more than that, it has given Dewey a community that she hadn’t even realized she was missing. "It has allowed me to connect with so many people who are in a professional career and haven’t felt like they can show that sexy side of themselves,” she explained.
In addition to the positive change that winning the Swim Search produced, Dewey’s photoshoot in the Dominican Republic likewise resulted in incredible memories and stunning photos that will last a lifetime. Below are a few of our favorites from the trip.
Now through Nov. 1, 100% of SI Swimsuit’s portion of proceeds from cover prints purchased here will be donated to the Maui Strong Fund, which is helping to support the people and places of Maui affected by the recent wildfires.
