An actor who traveled on the Titan submersible said the vehicle had battery issues and lost contact with its host ship for hours during the dive
An actor who was on the Titan submersible said the craft suffered a communication failure.
Alan Estrada told the Daily Mail the craft lost communication with its vessel ship for two hours.
Estrada is not the first passenger to speak out about issues with the submersible.
An actor who reportedly took a trip on the Titan submersible last year said the craft lost communication with its vessel ship for two hours.
Alan Estrada said in a YouTube video reported on by Reuters that the craft's energy source also lost power unexpectedly, which cut his time at the Titanic shipwreck short. He had paid $125,000 for the dive, the Daily Mail reported.
- ADVERTISEMENT -Despite the issues, Estrada told the news outlet he was made aware of the risks of the dive before he traveled.
"My biggest concern was obviously losing my life," he told the Daily Mail. "We are aware of the risks we are taking. It's not a surprise."
On Sunday, five people taking the same trip went missing after the submersible lost communication with its surface vessel two hours into its descent. Search teams spent the following days scouring the area in an attempt to find the sub.
On Thursday, debris was discovered near the Titanic wreck that the US Coast Guard said was from the sub. OceanGate said it believed the passengers have "sadly been lost."
Estrada is not the first passenger to speak out about issues with the submersible and OceanGate has come under scrutiny over safety concerns. Mike Reiss, who has taken four dives with OceanGate's Titan, said there were communication issues on his trips.
"I don't blame the submarine as much as I blame deep water," Reiss told CNN.
Representatives for OceanGate did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment, made outside normal working hours.
