Rod Stewart has been touring the world and playing his music for over five decades, but his family is hoping he'll ride off into the sunset.

A new report by The Daily Mail claims the "Have I Told You Lately That I Love You" singer's eight children are begging him to retire so he can spend more time with his grandchildren.

"They are worried about him and want him to throw in the towel on music and retire on his own terms," the source shared. "Their dad has devoted 50 years of his life to music and he has nothing left to prove to anyone."

"With his health issues, and considering his age, several of Rod's kids just think it is time for him to take a few years to focus on his health and his family – especially after the birth of his third grandbaby," the source added.

Rod has been at the forefront of rock 'n' roll since releasing "Maggie May" in 1971. Now 78, the Grammy winner is set to embark on a 40-show global tour beginning next week. In addition to his, he still has a popular Las Vegas residency show at Caesars Palace. Last year, Rod told the Daily Record that he plans to make music, but will give up "rock 'n' roll touring".

"I want to do something different. It feels like an end of an era. All things must come to an end," he said. "I'm not retiring and I still love singing, I just want to do something new. I might do a few folk clubs playing guitar. Just be different."

Of course, Rod's health might be what ultimately makes him think about retirement. Then again, despite beating cancer twice and have knee replacement surgery and ankle fusion surgery, his health is actually relatively good.

Although his family is encouraging him to hang it up, the message might be falling on deaf ears.

"Rod doesn't really want to stop and doesn't know how to not create music. It is his life. He would love to rock out forever and he believes that his fans need him," the source explained. "His family is just hoping that when Rod's tour is wrapped he is going to actually be done. They really want him to stick to this."
