SPANISH police have made 10 arrests after more than 50 people took part in a massive street brawl in the party resort of Magaluf.

Hooligans were filmed kicking and punching each other and throwing missiles including bottles in the orgy of violence in the early hours of Sunday morning in the coastal Majorcan town.

The chaos that broke out between two large groups went on for around 10 minutes before police intervened and managed to restore order.

Police have now said that five officers were injured and 10 arrested in the mass early-hours brawl.

The cause of the astonishingly violent fracas is unknown.

According to several witnesses, the fight erupted between a group of North African youngsters versus Spaniards but group of Portuguese holidaymakers have now been identified as the main troublemakers

Yet, the brawl snowballed and ended up drawing in revellers from different nationalities.

Several nightclub bouncers intervened but were unable to prevent the brawlers from kicking, punching, and hurling objects at one another.

Officers from the Civil Guard and the Local Police of Calvia quickly arrived on the scene and helped the bouncers try to end the fracas.

Some are said to have suffered injuries including broken bones.

Police are currently investigating the incident and trying to identify those involved by sweeping local hospitals in case anyone sought medical assistance for injuries suffered in the braw.

The violence kicked off in the street outside the popular nightclub positioned on the infamous strip, Panama Jack.

One youngster was seen being knocked to the ground with a punch to the face and getting up before others started lashing out with their feet and fists as onlookers screamed.

In the force’s first official comment on the incident a spokesman revealed: “The Civil Guard arrested eight men and two women in the early hours of yesterday morning on suspicion of involvement in a mass fight involving around 50 people.

“The brawl occurred in a street called S’Olivera Street in Magaluf. Officers arrived to find approximately 50 people participating in the fight.

“Two of the detainees were women, one Spaniard and one Argentinian. One of them tried to assault an officer and the other damaged a local police car.

“A Romanian man was held on suspicion of assaulting a man he punched without warning and knocked unconscious. His alleged victim had to be taken to hospital.

“Once the people involved in the incident were dispersed, the Civil Guard went through CCTV and identified a group of Portuguese nationals as the main group that started the brawl.

“They were located and arrested the early hours of this morning at a hotel in the Majorcan municipality of Llucmajor where they were staying following an investigation.

“Five Civil Guards were injured as a result of the incident in Magaluf. They needed medical assistance although their injuries were only light.

“Six participants in the brawl were also injured, one seriously.”

Those arrested are expected to appear in court in the coming hours.

A local commenting on the scenes said sarcastically: “Magaluf in modernisation phase and elimination of drunken tourism.”

It comes after years of attempts by local authorities to clean up Magaluf’s image of disorder, alcohol and drugs and also try to crack down on rowdy Brits that flock to the party town.

In March a British tourist was arrested after allegedly mowing down two holidaymakers including a UK teenager in Magaluf.

No Brits are believed to have been involved in Sunday morning’s violence.
