The Miami resident, in his 30s, was surfing in waist-deep water when he was bitten by a 6-foot shark, Malphurs said.

"The surfer said he thought the shark was feeding on bait fish when he got bit," Malphurs said.

The Miami man was treated at the scene for an injury to his left foot and drove himself to the hospital, Malphurs said.

On July 3, a Daytona Beach resident was the third victim to suffer a shark bite in Volusia County.

The 28-year-old Daytona Beach man was surfing near the jetty in New Smyrna Beach when he fell off of his board and was bitten on the left foot, beach officials said.

The victim's injury was minor and the was treated at the scene. He was driven to the hospital by a friend, beach officials said.
