#PeriodsAreNotAnInsult: Twitter's (Hilarious) Response to Donald Trump's Megyn Kelly Comment

You might have heard a little something about Fox News’ Megyn Kelly questioning Donald Trump about his treatment of women during Thursday’s Republican presidential debate.
If you missed the show, Kelly said: “You’ve called women you don’t like fat pigs, dogs, slobs, and disgusting animals. Your Twitter account has several—”
Trump cut her off to reply: “Only Rosie O’Donnell.”
Kelly kept going, asking: “Your Twitter account has several disparaging comments about women’s looks. You once told a contestant on Celebrity Apprentice it would be a pretty picture to see her on her knees. Does that sound to you like the temperament of a man we should elect as president, and how will you answer the charge from Hillary Clinton, who is likely to be the Democratic nominee, that you are part of the war on women?”
Though The Donald deflected the question during the debate, he didn’t take too well to being called out for his misogynistic behavior on national television, and went on to tell CNN’s Don Lemon on Friday night:
“You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes. Blood coming out of her wherever.”
Almost immediately, criticism erupted on Trump’s thinly-veiled schoolyard taunt about, it seemed, girls being all crazy when they have their periods.
(Nearly 12 hours later, the Trump camp concocted a way to re-spin the narrative, with Trump insisting via Twitter that he had been referring to Kelly’s nose … and not her vagina.)
The public, however, isn’t buying it. Over the weekend, the latest iteration of hashtag activism erupted on Twitter with women — and men — taking to the social media platform to explain to the GOP frontrunner that #PeriodsAreNotAnInsult. There have been 701 tweets and retweets to the hashtag in the past two days according to the social analytics tracker Keyhole.com — reaching over 4 million people. The posts began accelerating Monday to 20 per hour, according to Topsy, a social media tracking site. Not surprisingly, the respondents are 81 percent female, and 19 percent male.
